2005 Pontiac Montana Review
Pontiac's minivan drops regular-length and all-wheel-drive models for a token 2005 outing. Montana will be reborn later in the model year as the Montana SV6, with SUV-inspired styling and a different V6. Montana shares its design with the Chevrolet Venture, which will be similarly recast as the 2005 Uplander. Montana exits with base 1SA and better-equipped 1SE models. Both have GM's extended-length minivan body, front-wheel drive, a 185-hp V6, automatic transmission, and 3-row seating. The 8-passenger 1SA comes with a split 2nd-row bench seat vs. twin buckets for the 7-place 1SE. Both include air conditioning and CD player. The 1SE comes standard with features that are optional on the 1SA. These include ABS, front side airbags, rear air conditioning, power driver seat, and rear DVD entertainment. Options for both include traction control, power sliding side doors (right side or both), stowable 3rd-row seat, rear-obstacle detection, GM OnStar assistance, CD/MP3 player, and load-leveling rear suspension. Montana's performance and accommodations mirror those of similarly equipped Ventures.
Competition
Consumer Guide® Automotive places each vehicle into one of 17 classes based on size, price, and market position. Long the choice as the family hauler, Minivans are easily the smartest use of space for passengers and cargo. These vehicles offer a fantastic blend of comfort, convenience, and safety features for the modern family.

Our Best Buys include the Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Caravan, and Honda Odyssey. Recommended picks are the Mazda MPV and Toyota Sienna.
News
As noted, the Montana we've known fades away in the 2005 model year. The Montana SV6 replaces it as a somewhat sportier Pontiac minivan.
